Exhibit Design & Museum-Related Projects: Skirball Cultural Center

Through a Different Lens: Stanley Kubrick Photographs

October 17, 2019–March 8, 2020

This exhibition, organized by the Museum of the City of New York, is drawn from its Look magazine archive, which explores this early and influential work from Kubrick’s formative years. The exhibition follows along as he developed his talent for storytelling and honed his visual style in Look assignments that offer a kaleidoscopic view of city life, from the gritty to the glamorous. Organized chronologically, visitors can easily see his cinematic style develop through the years.

The title wall incorporated a built-out "slat" wall, that fractured the title in a unique way

The large mural at the entrance with introductory text

A long central wall defined the space and reflected the ceiling architecture

Each year was bookended by a bright yellow pylon to give the visitor easy signals they were moving into a new time period

Some themed groupings were arranged on 3" thick panels painted slightly darker than the wall color

The cases beneath each group were simple and intended for traveling. Legs are removable and nest underneath the deck.

Large wall murals reflected the cinemascope of the artist

Each salon-style grouping was hung in a unique pattern

The pylons also contained section text for each year
